Today marks the Aboriginal Housing Company’s 40th Anniversary. In July 1973 the company opened its doors on The Block, Redfern and after 40 years it is still going strong and continuing the vision from the company’s founders. It has been a long and hard fight for both the company and the community.
We would like to acknowledge our humble beginnings, and to pay our respects to our founders. We would also like to express our appreciation to all those involved, from all cultures, who have joined hands with Aboriginal people.
We acknowledge and thank our Board of Directors past and present. We thank all the families who have supported us through the years. We appreciate the camaraderie of all the agencies and organizations who have worked with us in partnership.
It has been a long struggle, but we are at the dawn of a new era. Collectively as a community we have turned things around for our next generation by building a strong foundation, through the Pemulwuy Project. Our children hold our aspirations for the future and we want to ensure their journey allows them to determine their future.
