The AHC is a community-based private charity incorporated as a limited liability company under the Corporations Act. The AHC has three tiers of governance. Its grass roots membership is made up of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community people from all walks of life. The members meet on an annual basis, or as required by law, to elect directors as representatives and monitor company’s progress. The Directors on behalf of the members meet monthly to steer the general direction of the company and to protect the interests of the community. Finally the AHC's management has an executive and administration component, both being responsible for the day to day operations of the company with direct accountability to both the Board and the members.
