Peter Valilis | Project Director is
an Australian born Greek who has lived in Sydney all his life. Peter has a very
strong cultural and community conscience, and has made a commitment to bettering
the lives of Aboriginal people. He began working for the AHC in 1999 as Project
Manager, originally engaged to manage the relocation project; to demolish old
housing stock on the Block and purchase replacement housing for relocating tenants;
to develop a Master Plan in preparation for the new redevelopment project; and
to implement best practice in operational and governance procedures and policies.
In 1999 he co-authored the award winning Community Social Plan with Angie Pitts
and he has represented the AHC in negotiations with the Federal, State and Local
governments; the non-Aboriginal community; and the business community. His initial
contract was for two years but the Board was so impressed with his ability to
progress and manage the complexities of the redevelopment project that they changed
his title to Project Director in 2003. Peter has over 15 years experience in the
property industry and is a licensed Real Estate Agent, with several industry awards
under his belt. Prior to joining the AHC he also received an Honors Degree in
Political Science and Organisational Management, and he is currently studying
for a Masters degree in Philosophy. Peter brings a fresh level of tenacity, honesty
and professionalism to the project and is well respected and liked for his easy-going
nature and egalitarian approach to people from all walks of life.
